ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Position Overview
Cayuga Heights After School Program (CHSAP) is looking for an Assistant Director for our child-centered fun, play-based afterschool program located at Cayuga Heights Elementary School. CHSAP provides care and enrichment after school five days a week for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. We also run a two-week summer camp in late summer and provide full day programming on school vacations and other days during the school year when school is not in session. We are a large program that serves approximately 80 children each day.
Role of Assistant Director
The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director and supports the Director in managing the program. As part of this work, the Assistant Director will be expected to:
Help the Director plan, arrange, and implement a wide range of fun and engaging activities for children.
Supervise other staff members when directed to do so by the Director (e.g., when the Director is not present when the program is in session).
Organize, manage, and maintain the program’s records.
Maintain the program’s website.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents and other community members.
Work and play directly with the children.
The ideal Assistant Director is a true kid-person who is at ease working in a loud and fast-paced environment. Being able to think on your feet and go with the flow while keeping a sense of calm are critical to success in this role, as is a good sense of humor.
Qualifications
Candidates must have:
A Masters or Bachelors degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Recreation, or a related field.
Supervisory experience.
Experience working with children and being comfortable working around large groups of children.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and website updating, and ability to easily learn new software.
Conflict resolution skills.
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to keep and manage records and to pay close attention to detail.
CPR and first aid skills (certification will be required for successful candidates and paid for by the program).
Integrity, self-discipline, an appreciation for teamwork, and a good sense of humor.

Salary and Hours
This is a full-time position, and the Assistant Director will work approximately 40 hours per week. Successful candidates must be available to work in-person at the program from 1:00-6:00 weekdays during the school year, and full days during the summer camp and school vacation days.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is health care eligible. After three years of full-time work, the Assistant Director would be eligible for retirement contributions to an IRA.
